1st International Mail Art Biennial in Tekirdağ, Turkey

Mail art is something that really makes me happy. Mail art, in the sphere of visual arts, is like a vignette or flash fiction in a literature. The openness and wit of this worldwide popular artform is very attractive to my artistic sensitivity. Also, I like its brief, often limited, way to express myself.

The theme of the 1st International Mail Art Biennial organised by Namik Kemal University in Tekirdağ, Turkey was “Tradition”. Immediately I was thinking of a woman, actually of the women I knew – my mother, my grandmother, my great-grandmother, and, of course, about myself. So I have sent two postcards, paper collages created with printed images on the old poetry book pages and the selection of the words that I think determine every single woman from the past and the future.
